Do you ever get in a routine of how you use your essential oils? I find myself opting to diffuse more often because it is one of the simplest methods of use. Or even just opening a bottle and inhaling because, again, super simple.
Using essential oils aromatically is definitely easy and my go-to, but there are two additional ways to use these wonderful products – topically and internally.
Aromatic use is just what it sounds like – using the aroma of the oils to breathe into your system. You can open a bottle and inhale it near your nose or add some drops to a diffuser. You can also add a drop to your hands, cup them and inhale in that way.
Topical application is not quite as easy as aromatic, but it’s still a fantastic way to use essential oils as the skin quickly absorbs the oils. To prevent a reaction due to sensitivity, it’s best to use a carrier oil with the essential oil. Fractionated coconut oil is great because it remains a liquid and does not have a heavy scent like other oils, such as olive oil. A recommended dilution is 1 drop essential oil to 3 drops carrier oil.
You can just pour the carrier oil into your palm, add the essential oil (or multiple essential oils), rub your hands together and apply to the body. Adding a few drops of essential oils to bathwater is also a quick and easy way to apply the oils as both topical and aromatic.
Essential oils can also be taken internally, such as mixed in water or tea, added while cooking, placed inside a gel capsule or even placed directly on the tongue. Since the oils will travel via our gestational tract, this is a very effective way to get the effects from the oils.
No matter how you decide to use your essential oils, you will want to make sure you are choosing the best quality of oils. I personally use doTERRA products because they have CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils, and I love the integrity of the company.
Additionally, having a resource guide such as the Modern Essentials book will be a great help in learning how to use each oil. I use this book every day and keep it on my counter along with my most used oils.
Due to continual research being done on essential oils, more application methods are being developed. The three methods dōTERRA recommends for using essential oils are aromatically, topically, and internally. Essential oils have a powerful effect on the limbic system when used aromatically. Topical application is commonly used on specific target areas for quick absorption. When used internally, essential oils enter the bloodstream and are distributed throughout the body.
