I had such a busy week away from home last week and am just now getting around to posting our frugal homemaking doings from the week.
Our church had a yard sale to raise funds for the new fellowship hall and since I am available during the day, I wanted to help with that. We set up Wednesday afternoon and hosted the sale on Thursday and Friday. It was many hours away from home so my usual schedule was out the window, but it was so fun to meet people and fellowship with my church family. Plus we raised some serious money for the new building, which brings us a bit closer to the goal!
We also had the usual errands day as well as the music lessons on Friday afternoon so all in all it was a busy week with not much homemaking going on! But we did manage to accomplish a few things such as:
*We stuck to the pre-planned menu for the week. I couldn’t believe I managed this, but we did and I was really glad because it actually simplified the meals for the busy week and we stayed on track using up what we had on hand with very little waste.
*Came in under budget when getting groceries. This was nice because we ended up needing a new battery for the lawn mower so we used the extra for that purchase. I also was able to get a can of spray paint to refurbish a cute and useful 3-tiered hanging wire basket that I got at a yard sale for $0.75. This is now hanging in my pantry awaiting its future contents.
*Sent lunch with my husband each day. He worked a full week in spite of the rainy days so this was a great savings. I enjoy doing this each morning, and he’s very appreciative. I think he likes not having to leave the job site and hunt down fast food! Plus he saves his spending money for the week.
*Purchased our younger daughter some very nice clothes at the church yard sale. I also found a nice t-shirt and a new Tupperware cake carrier. We spent under $20 for everything, and this was our yard sale money for the week so it was the only one we went to.
I know we did more money-saving home stuff last week, but I didn’t write it down in my trusty notebook like I had been! But I’m back on it this week so next week’s report will have much more detail.
How did you save money, live frugally, or tend to your home and family this week?
